What is a Mormon Molly?

Female Mormons that are members of the LDS church have certain expectations placed upon them; these include being humble, showing respect to both their husband and the church, to be chaste, to bear children and to support all the works of the LDS Church. The term Molly Mormon is what is commonly given as a means as describing the average Mormon woman that fits this stereotype. The term Molly Mormon is by no means a bad thing however it is capable of being used in a derogatory manner.

Times are changing

Choosing to live your life being humble and chaste and following all of the other expectations of a Mormon molly is perfectly fine; in fact it is something to be admired. However in today’s Modern world some of the more ancient and old fashioned view of what makes a molly are not the same as they once were. There are numerous resources online that give advice to Mormon mollies or those looking to become one on how they should dress. For any molly or aspiring molly looking at these resources though they should not feel that in any way this means that they should wear anything that would make them uncomfortable. Whilst most of the old ideas regarding Mollies still hold true today, Modern Mormon woman now have a little more freedom in regards to how they dress rather than conforming to ancient out of date expectations.

Molly mothers

Teaching a child to grow up the right way is extremely important as mother especially young girls. From a young age it is important that they are educated about what it means to be a molly and what is acceptable and what is not. One of the most important things that a Mormon molly mother can teach their child is that it is definitely not something that should be ashamed of and that choosing that way of life means you are following the instructions of the Lord and that they should be proud.

The True Meaning of CTR

Choose the right or CTR as it is often referred to, is a popular phrase amongst Mormons and other members of the LDS Church. It is one of the fundamental foundations of the Mormon religion and way of life; the phrase itself comes from the hymn of the same title “choose the right”. Choose the right is used as a means of teaching Mormon children the importance of being righteous and to follow the path of Jesus Christ in everything that they do. Choose the right is an extension of the overall importance of having strong morals and beliefs within the Mormon religion and LDS church.

CTR Rings

CTR rings are not worshipped by Mormons as some people believe; rather they are a symbolic representation and foundation of their belief used as a means of keeping their faith. The very first CTR rings that were created by the LDS church were designed for children between the ages of 2 and 11. These rings had a logo of a green shield with the letters CTR written in gold across it, the shield signified strength that one gets from performing righteous deeds and choosing the right path in life. Nowadays CTR rings are worn by both adults and children, male and female regardless of age. The CTR ring is proudly worn by many Mormons and members of the LDS Church as a way of publically acknowledging their devotion to the Mormon faith, religion and way of life.

CTR a positive force

Choose the right is a positive force for good and it provides motivation and encouragement to all Mormons and members of the LDS church to choose the right direction in their life and to do good deeds. Wearing a CTR ring or other CTR accessory such as a tie clip or cufflinks is just another way of reminding Mormons to keep to the right path in everyday life. Anyone with a strong belief in the Lord Jesus Christ will understand the significance and importance of the phrase choose the right because sometimes taking the right path is not as easy as it may seem but choosing this path will bring eternal joy and happiness as well as bringing them closer to the Lord.

Mormon Funny list of Pet Peeves

Funny top 10 lists are extremely popular online there are lists covering top 10 movies, top 10 songs, top 10 favourite quotes and a whole lot more. These types of top 10 lists usually get shared on social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Tumblr. Another popular subject for a top 10 list is pet peeves, everyone has a pet peeve, something that really annoys them and for us Mormons or LDS members it’s usually questions that we get asked by people that do not understand the Mormon religion. Below is a list of popular funny LDS pet peeves covering some of these questions that we regularly get asked by someone who is not Mormon or a member of the LDS church. Take a look and see just how many of yours have made the list.

  • When someone asks “why is it that you guys hate the bible so much?”
  • To be told “ it really must suck being a Mormon seeing as there are so many things that you are not allowed to do”
  • Being asked “Joseph Smith who is he?”
  • After explaining the answer to the above question being asked “why do worship him?”
  • Being lectured by a non-Mormon on what we believe
  • The question “Is the Mormon Church a Christian one?”
  • When someone asks “how many husbands/wives do you have?”
  • When someone asks “why is it that you guys don’t believe in Christ?”

As a Mormon reading this list of funny LDS pet peeves your probably nodding your head in agreement at some of the above pet peeves and I’m sure there are a few that you could probably add yourself.

Dispelling a myth just to be told “well you’re in the minority, the rest of your church still believes ____” when in fact they don’t.

Laughing at Ourselves With LDS Humour

Having a good laugh every now again is important to everyone this includes us Mormons. Many people think that we are a serious bunch and that we are all about strict behaviours not laughing and joking but you only need to take a look at some of the hundreds of different LDS memes and funny LDS jokes posted in places such as Pinterest to see that we love a good laugh as much as the next person. While many people outside of the LDS and Mormon Church may not find some of our LDS jokes particularly funny the jokes below are considered to be some of the funniest LDS humour around.

Selection of LDS and Mormon Jokes

A Mormon man standing in line to get his lunch leans over to the man standing next to him and says, “Do you want to hear a Mormon joke?”

The man next to him says, “Well before you tell it, there’s something you should know. I’m 6′ tall, 300 lbs., and I’m anti-Mormon.  The guy who sits next to me is 6’1 tall and weighs 245 lbs and he’s also anti-Mormon.  The guy sitting next to him is 6’4 tall, weighs 285lbs, and he’s anti-Mormon too.  Now, do you still want to tell that joke?”

The Mormon man says, “No, not if I’m going to have to explain it three times.”

Everybody in Salt Lake City in Utah is well versed in the practice of family history research. Even the larger department stores in the city sell Research supplies. A newcomer to the city who is also not a researcher gets a Job as a clerk at one of the bigger department stores. She gets introduced to genealogy one day when customer enters the store and asks her “Where can I find the Family group sheets?” with a totally shocked look on her face the new clerk answers “I’m sorry all we stock are queen, king, twin and double sheets.”

I am sure if you are reading these as a non-Mormon then you are thinking to yourself how this is funny and you would be forgiven. But these jokes illustrate how we as Mormons enjoy a good joke even to the point where most LDS jokes are actually poking fun at ourselves.
